The long one: Kalamna, meaning 'our words' in Arabic, is transforming Arabic language learning. We make it fun and engaging, with a focus on everyday, conversational Arabic, which enables us to positively connect children with their Arabic heritage. We developed our very own curriculum where we use phonics to teach Arabic, because phonics proved to be a better and faster way to teach children reading and writing. At the core of our specially-designed curriculum is the focus on making the children confident speakers and readers of Arabic, and not just teach them a load of grammar rules that they cannot use in their everyday life. We encourage them to speak and feel confident in their spoken Arabic, because what's the use of learning a language if you can't speak it?
We also work according to the learning pace of the class, and we don't have to rush to finish a certain number of pages by the end of the term. We go over many topics, stories, and songs throughout the school year, all relevant to today's children.
