Kalamna offers Arabic language classes to a maximum of 20 children across two stages: Stage 1 (ages 5-7), Stage 2 (ages 8-11), as well as a range of social events and gatherings, including end of term and Eid parties. Additionally, we operate a library system where each week the children are able to take home an Arabic book to read and return the following week. The classes are held in a hall at Great Park Community Centre, with access to the café and waiting area. Parents must stay on site and are welcome to have a catch up with other parents in the while their children attend their class. On-site parking is available.
We believe in the importance of spoken Arabic as the main form of communication as well as a transitional tool towards acquiring standard Arabic reading and writing. We use spoken Arabic as our main language of instruction and encourage all dialects to be spoken alongside the teacher's main dialect.
Our approach aims to bridge the gap between the mainstream UK education our children are receiving and their Arabic education, by integrating the EYLF and national curriculum framework for KS1-2 in our teaching, using learning through play with our younger age groups, and topic-based learning for each key stage. To achieve this aim, we use and create our own curriculum and materials, supported by external materials where appropriate.
